Catan Explorers and Pirates

Set sail for a larger adventure! The Catan: Explorers & Pirates – 5-6 Player Extension allows you to bring even more friends along for the journey into the uncharted waters surrounding Catan.

This extension builds upon the exploration-heavy mechanics of the fourth major Catan expansion, adding new components and refined rules to keep the gameplay smooth and engaging for larger groups.

Game Overview

In this expansion, you aren't just building roads and settlements; you are commissioning ships, hiring crews, and striking out into the fog of war. You'll establish harbor settlements, battle pirate lairs, haul in massive catches of fish, and trade for rare spices with the local villages.

• Expanded Player Count: Increases the game to 5–6 players.

• Play Time: Approximately 120–150 minutes.

• Age Recommendation: 12 years and up.

What’s in the Box?

This extension provides the necessary pieces for two additional players (usually Green and Brown) and the extra board space needed for the expanded scenarios:

• Wooden Pieces: 8 Harbor Settlements, 18 Crews, 6 Ships, 4 Settlers, and 2 Pirate Ships.

• New Terrain: Additional Sea hexes, Gold Field hexes, and standard terrain hexes.

• Mission Items: 2 Fish Hauls and 12 Spice Sacks.

• New Mechanics: Includes a structured "Paired Player" turn-taking system (6th Edition) or the "Special Building Phase" (5th Edition) to minimize downtime between turns.
